Trump Entertainment Resorts previously went by the name Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts. Donald Trump was the founder of this company, and was also the chairman of the board of directors until he resigned in 2009. When Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts was established in 1995, Trump immediately began issuing shares on all of his Atlantic City Holdings. The company landed up filing for bankruptcy a number of times. After filing again in 2004, they changed their name to Trump Entertainment Resorts. Trump stepped down from his role as CEO, and with that his shares went from 56% to 27%. He served as Chairman of the Board until February 2009. In 2009 Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for bankruptcy for the third time. The Trumps however quit before the filing was made. Donald offered to buy the company and take it private but when this offer was declined he completely removed himself from the company.

In 2014 Trump filed a lawsuit demanding that his name be removed from Trump Plaza Hotel and the Trump Taj Mahal. He argued that he was no longer involved in these properties and they no longer measured up to the luxurious and exclusive brand image that he represents.
